Catch the secret - of the new age

Paris - December 21st 2016

Dear Michael Weisser -

We (David Chastel and Yann Desfougères) are working on an exhibition scheduled for January in Paris and we would really like you to participate.

David works as a registrar for gallery Frank Elbaz, and previously worked for gallery Yvon Lambert and gallery Almine Rech, and I’m a writer specialized in electronic music who works for Vice magazine, Revue Audimat, etc. We both graduated from the same art school and we decided to team up in order to organize this independant exhibition.

Attached, you’ll find a PDF detailling the project and explaining a little bit more who we are. To make it short, the idea is to ask people from various backgrounds (contemporary artists, graphic designers, photographs, technical illustrators) and from all over the world, to design covers for classic electronic music records of the 80’s that didn’t get one, but which we think deserve some as they became celebrated in electronic music history.

We are already working with established artists like Leon Sadler (who runs Mould Map), Maxime Guyon (a photographer specialised in technology who graduated from ECAL and who now works for Mr L’Agent), or Jean-Philippe Bretin (who runs revue Collection, Lagon, Modèle Puissance and is also a graphic designer and  illustrator), as well as promising young ones like Hugo Ruyant (a comic book artist who graduated from La Cambre in Belgium and published Royaumes), Futur Neue (A Swiss graphic design bureau), and we are still reaching out to other people (Travess Smalley, Hansje Van Halem, etc.)

As record collectors we love your work as musician, label owner and graphic designer particularly what you did on Innovative Communication. The covers you designed really stand out in our collections and we would be really honored if you agreed to work on this project. We think their clean minimal composition associated with colorful pictures would perfectly complete some of the records we selected even if they come from a completely different genra, much more club oriented. They often have very minimal compositions and instrumentations paired with maximalist, pop efficacity in melodies and sonic textures. They are also full of references to the future, the machines, science fiction, the feeling to enter a new era. The mix between gospel spirituality in which these house music artists grew up and their fascination for technology really creates a specific kind of futuristic new age aesthetic that we think you may be receptive to as you’re not only a visual artist but also an electronic musician, and a science fiction writter.

We hope that if you take a look at the PDF attached to this email, you’ll see that our project could really gain your interest and fit your whole artistic approach.

Best regards,

Yann / Entercourse Of The New Age
